Learn English With ChatGPT Through Specific Practice Tasks

By Tree · Updated

Use ChatGPT for a defined part of your learning routine. A concrete task makes its answer easier to review: compare a retelling with a source, ask a follow-up question, or check whether a revision fixes one problem.

Choose the job before starting the chat

If you want to practise preserving meaning, give the model a short source and ask it to compare your attempt with that source. If you want to handle unexpected questions, describe a situation and ask for one follow-up at a time. These are different exercises, so judge them differently.

For a meeting role-play, you could write:

We are practising a project update. Ask me what is ready, then ask one follow-up based on my answer. After three exchanges, identify one place where my meaning was unclear. Quote my words and ask me to try that part again.

This is a practice prompt, not a guarantee that every response will follow it correctly.

Keep your own words visible

Save your first answer before accepting a rewrite. Ask what was unclear and why a proposed correction helps. A polished answer written by the tool does not show that you can produce the same meaning yourself.

If you use voice, check any transcript that the feedback relies on. Use a checked text transcript when the tool cannot access your audio. Do not treat text feedback as a pronunciation assessment.

End with another attempt

Choose one change, close the model answer, and speak again. Then ask whether that specific issue has been resolved. Transfer the structure to a different situation so the exercise involves more than remembering the corrected sentence.

The speaking-with-ChatGPT guide gives the full source-based workflow. The guided session supplies passages and copyable prompts. For a broader routine, use Tree’s learning method.
