Review an English retelling without inventing a score

Source: Original teaching example by Tree

Feedback becomes actionable when it points to a specific difference between the source and the attempt. This example uses an invented work scenario and an invented learner response. It is not a recording assessment.

The source

We planned to send the client report on Tuesday, but two figures still need checking. I suggest sending it on Wednesday morning, so the client has it before Thursday’s meeting. Could you confirm the figures by three this afternoon?

The source has four checkpoints: the original plan, the reason for the delay, the proposed delivery with its reason, and the request for confirmation.

An illustrative first attempt

The report is not ready because two figures need checking. We will send it on Thursday.

The reason for the delay is present. The delivery date is changed, however: Thursday is the meeting date, not the proposed sending date. The original Tuesday plan and the request for confirmation are also missing.

There is a second change in certainty. “I suggest sending it” is a proposal; “we will send it” sounds like a settled decision. A useful review preserves that distinction.

Choose one retry

The most urgent repair is the delivery proposal and request. A focused instruction is:

Explain the proposed delivery and ask for confirmation in two sentences. Keep Wednesday morning, Thursday’s meeting, and three this afternoon distinct.

One possible response is:

I suggest sending the report on Wednesday morning, before the client’s Thursday meeting. Could you confirm the two figures by three this afternoon?

That retry fixes the selected gap. It is not a complete retelling because it does not restate the original Tuesday plan. You can make a final complete attempt after checking the focused repair.

Why no overall score?

A percentage alone would hide the difference between omitting a date and changing the proposed deadline. For this practice task, a checkpoint-by-checkpoint comparison gives a clearer next action. It does not measure general proficiency or predict performance in a real meeting.

Ask an AI coach to quote evidence from your attempt, and check its interpretation yourself. If a transcript misheard “Wednesday,” correct that before reviewing your speaking.
